Plot[]
Mary is shocked about Aoi asking her to help him destroy Kirari, the Student Council president. She doesn’t understand why Aoi would want to hurt her if he’s on the Student Council too. Aoi explains that it’s because of the housepet system. He says that he doesn’t like students being treated like animals just for losing a game. Aoi explains that he wants to dismantle this system created by Kirari. He tells Mary that if she’s willing to help him out, he’ll give her this million yen back.
Aoi leaves and Tsuzura apologizes to Mary. She says that it’s her fault. Mary asks Tsuzura to not blame herself for a scenario she hadn’t anticipated. Tsuzura asks Mary to not blame herself when she wasn’t the one playing. Yukimi finds that blaming is a waste of energy. She suggests that they focus on how to bring money into the den. Mary doesn’t believe they can do that without a buy-in.
Mary starts heading home, sad. On her way out, she notices a crowd of students looking at a poster. It’s the Student Council Donation Deadline Notice. Mary understands that she’s in trouble, as she doesn’t have any money. If she becomes a mittens, she won’t be able to save Tsuzura.
Mary shows up at Aoi’s office. Yukimi and Tsuzura were already here. Aoi had invited them. Aoi explains that the fear of becoming a housepet is enough for students to lose any motivation to rise against the Student Council. He leads Mary, Tsuzura, and Yukimi to a room next to his office.
Students are gambling. Everyone here is a housepet. Aoi picked out the ones that were higher in the rankings. Housepets are usually not able to donate 100,000 yen. 10,000 yen is much more doable. 10,000 yen from these 100 housepets adds up to one million yen. They can take out the strongest contenders, have them play higher-stakes games, collect the winnings, and buy multiple people out of being housepets. Aoi believes that this is how they can destroy the system before taking on Kirari. Aoi brought Tsuzura and Yukimi because the game he’ll have Mary playing requires multiple players. He asks Mary to help him save them.
Mary participates in the 50th Annual Coupling Party. Mary thinks that Aoi was messing with her. The emcee explains the rules. The players are divided into teams composed of five girls or five boys. Each team is then paired up with another one composed of students of the opposite sex. First, players introduce themselves to the other team, expressing their likes and dislikes. After introductions have ended, every girl has to decide which boy she will "confess her love to." Everyone can freely confess to anyone, even if the same boy is chosen by multiple girls. Meanwhile, male players have to decide which girl they will accept a confession from. After everyone has chosen, the teams meet up again to see if any couple is formed. If a girl confesses to a boy and he accepts, she loses the gamble and will have to pay what she bet to him. In case of multiple girls confessing to the same guy, as long as a single couple is formed he will be considered the winner and will get money from any girl who confessed to him, even the ones he didn't choose. However, boys who aren't able to form a couple lose and they will be the ones paying the other team.
For the first round, players have to bet one million yen. In the second round, the amount increases to two million yen. Players can choose to leave after the first round.
There are special benefits that girls can use to decrease the amount of money they have to pay in case of loss, called "Maiden's promise".
- Exchanging phone numbers - 1/2
- Eating together - 1/3
- Date for one day - 1/5
- Spending a night together - 1/10
After a girl has chosen to use a benefit, in case of defeat she must not break her promise for any reason.
Sachiko is the head manager for this party. Mikura is here to assist her. Mikura introduces Mary, Tsuzura, and Yukimi to two other girls: Kurumi, second-year from Sakura class, and Chitose, third-year from the Botan class. This is Chitose’s third time playing. Kurumi points out that Chitose didn’t find a boyfriend after all. Chitose angrily tells her to not mention that. She angrily explains that she had found a match, but he said no after the game.
Chitose becomes calm again. She has the other girls filling out their lineup card to determine the order that they confess or make decisions in. Chitose asks the girls if they want to get a boyfriend or money. She believes they need to know that to avoid working against each other. Kurumi says that she’ll go along with the group. Mary says that she’s just here for the money. They play Rock Paper Scissors to determine the lineup. The students take their seats.
The conversation time begins. The boys say their names : Nobuya, Haruto, Ren, Mamoru, and Kanade. Mary finds that these boys are good-looking and questions why any of them want to be here except Kanade. The girls introduce themselves. Chitose says that she’s here to find a boyfriend that can treat her like a princess. Mary thinks that it’s better for them if the boys don’t know their goal is to make money.
Mary, Tsuzura, and Yukimi talk about their gambling den. Mary says that her type is someone who is so honest that they’re stupid. Mary realizes that she gave an honest answer. Kanade tells Tsuzura to not hold back because she’s a mittens. He asks her about her hobbies. Tsuzura responds that she likes to cook and do needlework. Kanade likes that and tells Tsuzura that she’s his type.
The emcee announces that it’s consultation time. Kurumi informs Mary that the stakes begin at one million yen per round. Mary believes that Aoi is testing her. He wants to see if she can handle this. Aoi will just toss her to the side if she fails this test. Yukimi suggests that they offer the dinner date benefit. Tsuzura proposes that they use the “sleepover” option since it will make them save the most money. Mary realizes that Tsuzura doesn’t know what it means. Yukimi explains to Tsuzura the meaning of sleepover.
Mary goes along with Yukimi’s idea of offering dinner dates. Mary says that their plan will be to prevent as many couples as possible to owe less money. She wants the girls to all confess to someone different. The more people confess to someone, the higher the chances of a couple being formed. Tsuzura must not confess to Kanade, as he took a liking to her. Chitose wants to confess to Mamoru. She says that she loves the type of boy he is. The girls decide on their confessions. As they take their seats, Mary has Tsuzura switch confessions with her.
Mary explains to Tsuzura the flaw in their plan. If there is a traitor among them, there is a risk that they all lose. Mary and Tsuzura switching confessions is a countermeasure for that. They’re all done for if a traitor tells the boys all of their confessions. Mary admits to Tsuzura that she doesn’t trust Yukimi yet.
The emcee says that it’s confession time. Mikura is in charge of Mary’s table. She asks the girls to circle the number of the person they’d like to confess to and pass it to her. Mikura will also collect the boys’ cards. Yukimi, Tsuzura, and Mary use the dinner date benefit. Mary expects at least one couple to be made. Even if there is a traitor, Mary thinks that Tsuzura and she will win. The boys write girls’ names on their cards. Mary feels like something’s off. Kurumi tells Haruto that she likes him. She asks him if he wants to go on a date with her. She then laughs and says that she was just kidding. Mary doesn’t comprehend why the boys didn’t react at all.
It’s the girls’ turn. Tsuzura says that she picks Nobuya. Kanade is sad about Tsuzura not picking him. The girls are surprised, as they didn’t know Tsuzura switched up her pick. Mary explains that it’s part of her strategy to win. The girls make tier picks. It’s time for the results. Kurumi made a confession to Haruto. It was successful. Haruto realized that Kurumi wanted to get money. He admits that he’d still be down to go on a real date with Kurumi. Mikura announces that Yukimi successfully confessed to Kanade. Kanade says that he also has strong opinions about literature. He reminds Yukimi that she wagered a dinner date. He tells her that he’ll find them somewhere romantic and make a reservation. Yukimi is traumatized.
Mary is convinced they have a traitor. Tsuzura, Mary, and Chitose also have made successful couples. Mikura congratulates them. Mary is furious. She accuses Mikura, the dealer, of cheating. Sachiko guarantees Mary that they didn’t rig the game. Mary doesn’t believe it. Sachiko asks Mary to not be blinded by her own failure. She informs Mary that there is a much simpler explanation. Mary tries to figure out how Tsuzura and she got paired up even if there is a traitor. She considers the possibility of Tsuzura being the traitor. She thinks Sachiko, Aoi, Tsuzura, and Yukimi are all working together to bring her down.
Sachiko announces that the bonus round will begin. The buy-in will be doubled to two million yen. She then asks Mary what she is going to do. At this rate, Mary will become a housepet. Mary can’t participate in the bonus round since she doesn’t have two million yen. Kurumi says that she’ll help Mary. However, she wants Mary to pick the sleepover option, so she will spend less money. Tsuzura asks Mary not to. Mary doesn’t know who to trust anymore.

Anime-Manga Differences[]
- In the manga, when Aoi introduces Mary to the Full-Bloom Society, he introduces her to Sakura right after. Mary doesn't accept or decline the invitation. Afterwards, she discusses with Yukimi and Tsuzura whether they're going to side with Full-Bloom or the student council. In the anime, before Mary can accept or deny, the scene shifts to the Coupling Party.
