Episode 4 is the fourth episode of the live action of Kakegurui.
Summary[]
Desperate to return to the elite of the school, Mary faces Yuriko in a game of "life and death."
Plot[]
The episode begins with updating the school's donations scoreboard, and Mary was worried that she was now a pet. Several students looked on and laughed, pointing out that she was an housepet and still commenting on Yumeko Jabami having defeated Itsuki Sumeragi. Mary was startled when she heard Jun Kiwatari's voice looking for her, and as soon as she saw her, she went over to her, greeted her and made her wear her ID, introducing Nanami Tsubomi as her friend, sending her to greet her too. Nanami went to her and started to greet her softly, to which Jun ordered her to speak louder. Mary didn't want that and, without meaning to, was seen by the others, making her run away.
In the Student Council room, Itsuki was against his expulsion. Kaede Manyuda pointed out her disgraceful defeat against Yumeko, and when she tried to come back by saying she would donate more money, he cut her off. The vice president kicked her out and Itsuki didn't want to accept that, Runa Yomotsuki commenting on how Kaede had made her cry, and he closes his laptop, getting up to leave. Itsuki tries to go after him, but when ignored, tries to go to the president, being electrocuted by Sayaka Igarashi before she can do it to the laughter of Runa and Midari. Runa went to help Sayaka get Itsuki out and Sayaka asked her about Yuriko, to which she said she left with "those slanted eyes". At the Traditional Culture Club, Kumagusu started the official match between Yuriko and the challenger with the game Life or Death.
In the classroom, the girls praised Yumeko's good ability as a gambler while she remained modest. Ryota Suzui points out how Yumeko was now popular while Mary wasn't and how gambling really mattered at that school. Yumeko apologized to everyone because she had an appointment, got up and asked Ryota to show her the school again, to which both he and they were surprised, but she just said that she preferred to go with him. So they left again.
The two followed a path where Ryota was trying to divert Yumeko's attention to another place as they were arriving near the Traditional Culture Club that welcomes them and invites them to observe an official match, which Yumeko immediately accepts. The members guide her. Yumeko asks what an official match was and Ryota and one of the members explain to her what it was. Upon entering, they come across Mary betting with Yuriko Nishinotoin.

Mary cries and regrets getting involved with Yumeko.
Mary notices their presence but tries to ignore them to concentrate on the game. One of the members explains the game to Ryota and Yumeko, Life or Death. The dealer, Kumagusu, asks Mary to decide the number of chips; Mary was really worried about her loss, but she bet thirty-two. Yuriko agrees with the amount and Kumagusu puts the swords, starting to count. The two players bet. Kumagusu revealed the numbers and Mary was happy for a moment that she got it right, but then Yuriko points out that it was death. With that, she lost and acquired a debt of forty-nine million and six hundred thousand yen, being taken from her by the other members. Arriving in his office, he regretted having bet against Yumeko; he sat at his desk and cried.
Returning to the club, Yuriko recognized Yumeko and invited her to play Life or Death; she accepted even though she was against Ryota's protests. Yuriko asked Kumagusu and the other members to organize the game. In Mary's room, Sayaka handed her a booklet. Once the preparations were ready, Yuriko and Yumeko sat down and the first suggested forty million, which surprised Ryota and then he was silenced by the other members. The chips were brought and Yuriko gave a hint of the game to Yumeko.
They formally greeted each other and Yumeko decided to bet ten chips for the first round. Again, Ryota protested. Kumagusu put the swords in the cup and proceeded to count. Yuriko was already putting in her chips, but Yumeko thought until the last second to spread her bets. As Yuriko realized this, Yumeko told her his theories about the game. Kumagusu revealed the results: life in seventeen and death in thirty. Neither of them got it right. Ryota tries to get Yumeko out of that game, but both players refuse.

Yuriko angry at Yumeko's teasing.
Yumeko suddenly accuses her of cheating and explains what she thought about Yuriko's previous match against Mary, and still curses her. The members and Kumagusu try to expel Yumeko, but both they and Ryota are startled by Yuriko's annoyed expression, who still says she needn't worry because it's a simple tease. In the hallway, Sayaka passed the students while full of things; some students try to talk to her, but she was busy, so she kept following.

- In live action, Jun has some interaction with Mary before the Indian Poker game. In the manga and anime, he only meets her in the game.
- In live action, Itsuki's expulsion from the Council is shown. In manga and anime, this doesn't happen.
- In both the manga and the anime, Ryota and Yumeko are greeted by only one member of the club. In live action, they are received by several.
- In live action, he is one of the club members who explain to Ryota and Yumeko the rules of the Life or Death game. In the manga, Kumagusu does it, and in the anime, Yuriko.
- In both the manga and the anime, Mary refuses to be taken by any of the members and even screams at them. In live action, she lets herself go and still cries in the living room after that.
- Only in the manga and live action is there a metaphor from the Life or Death game about a battlefield where swords fall from the sky.
- In both manga and live action, Yuriko is the one who suggests the amount of the bet. In the anime, Yumeko is the one who does it.
- Only in live action is a Council member (in this case, Sayaka) shown delivering life plans to Mary.
- In live action, there are many other members watching the match than in the manga and anime; these members also participate more, encouraging players to bet and also asking for Ryota's silence regarding his incredulous screams during the game.
