Gambling Women Again is the first episode of the second season in the Kakegurui animated series and the thirteenth episode overall. It is produced by MAPPA and aired in Japan on the 8th of January, 2019.

Summary[]

Midari and Yumeko are invited to a dangerous game by a member of the President's family. They both agree and continue to play. Eventually even the proposer of the game gets nervous. Before that, Kirari also welcomed distant relatives of her to the school, all of which are fierce gamblers.

Plot[]

Erimi Mushibami offers Yumeko Jabami and Midari Ikishima an opportunity to gamble in the Finger Cutting Guillotine game, presided over by monitor Inaho Yamato. They relish the challenge but Ryota thinks the idea is crazy and even Erimi thinks they underestimate the risk they are taking as she has the system rigged so that her finger will be safe. The impatient Midari goes first, then Yumeko and then Midari cuts a string, but the guillotine fails to fall. Erimi explains that it is a torture machine of her family who use it to extract information. During the second round, Yumeko questions Yamato about the setup, causing Erimi to fear that her finger may also be in danger. With 6 strings cut, the third round commences, and after Midari and Yumeko cut 2 more, the risk increases, causing Erimi even more distress. Meanwhile, Kirari introduces new members to the Student Council; Terano and Yumi Totobami, Sumika Warakubami, Miyo Inbami, Miroslava Honebami, Nozomi Komabami, Rin and Ibara Obami, Miri Yobami, Erimi Mushibami and Rei Batsubami who are all part of the Momobami clan.

Differences between anime and manga[]

  • The first episode of season two starts out of order with the Finger Cutting Guillotine being introduced before the Momobamis. The manga is in chronological order.
  • When Inaho tells Erimi on the Election Committee’s to absolute neutrality, in the anime, she does so on the task of altering the strings on the guillotine. In the manga, she does this shortly after she is introduced before the guillotine is even revealed (Chapter 35).
  • One of the most significant changes in the anime is Rei Batsubami, which encompasses a lot of things. The one big difference is that almost everything that directly involves Rei is not canon, as she is an anime original character. Since she isn’t present in the manga, either all the things she does are nonexistent in the story or were done by someone else. For example, in the manga when the Momobamis enter the student council room, it is Sayaka, not Rei, who introduces them. This shows us that Sayaka is well-informed about Kirari’s personal life, as the anime made her oblivious to the Momobamis. Also, there is a moment where Rei invites Yumeko to the Finger Cutting Guillotine gamble when it is actually Erimi in the manga who directly challenges her. There are other moments like this. Furthermore, the Hundred Votes Auction, as well as the Coin Flip of Fate never happened in the manga.
