Love-Dancing Woman is the eighth episode of Season One in the Kakegurui animated series. It is produced by MAPPA and aired in Japan on the 26th of August, 2017.

Summary[]

Kirari leaves the academy to deal with her family leaving the Student Council wondering how to handle Yumeko. Meanwhile, Itsuki confronts Yumeko in hopes to join her so that she can rejoin the Student Council.

Plot[]

Kirari departs from the academy, leaving the Student Council unsure how to deal with Yumeko while second-year students Kaede Manyuda and Yumemi Yumemite use this advantage to increase their authority. Itsuki, who is in danger of being disowned by her father after being expelled from the Council because of her loss to Yumeko, pledges loyalty to the latter in hopes that she will defeat Kirari, become the President, and restore Itsuki's place on the Council. Yumeko receives a challenge letter from Yumemi, the head of PR and a YourTube Japanese idol, who bets 50 million yen on the outcome of an on-stage idol championship competition - if Yumeko loses, Yumemi will alter her life schedule to force Yumeko to join her in an idol duo, obstructing her desire for a social life or meaningful relationships, much like Yumemi's own life. However, Yumeno adds another condition after tricking Yumemi into revealing her disgust towards her fans, whom she regards as revolting "pigs" on a recording device - if Yumemi loses, Yumeko will release the tape, destroying her idol career with any hopes of becoming a Hollywood actress.

Character Appearances[]

Differences between anime and manga[]

  • In the anime, Ryota claims to know and support Yumemi because of her being a fellow second year. In the manga, he does it because he likes to cheer on the school (Chapter 17).
  • Sayaka asks Kirari (disguised as Ririka) Where she was going, but was met with silence. This is omitted in the anime. (Chapter 18).
  • The anime censors middle finger gestures shown in the manga. For example: Kaede fixes his glasses with his middle finger as if he’s displaying the gesture. However, the anime has him fix his glasses with both his middle finger and his index finger. There were also other panels where Itsuki too does the middle finger gesture, but it was either cut out or replaced with the index finger gesture instead (Chapter 18).
  • Only in the manga before we saw Shinnouji, the president of Yumemi’s fanclub, did we need another one of Yumemi’s fans, Yamamoto, who missed one of her shows because of a cold (Chapter 18).
  • It was shown in the manga that as a child, Yumemi expressed her desire to walk the red carpet with her mother, who doubted her success since she was Japanese. While not vital, it explains why Yumemi is highly motivated and her dream to become a successful actress. This is missing from the anime (Chapter 19).
  • When Saori summons Yumeko so that Yumemi can formally challenge her to a gamble, in the anime, she does so offscreen. In the manga, we see Saori talk to Yumeko in their classroom while Ryota is present (Chapter 19).
  • In the anime, Yumemi remembers the exact concert of hers that Ryota went to. In the manga, Yumemi doesn’t specify the details (Chapter 19).
  • In the manga, Yumeko makes the comment, “Japanese people are idiots anyway. They’ll always fall for enough hype, every time.” This scene is cut out from the anime (Chapter 19).
  • When Saori lunges for the recorder, in the manga, Yumeko throws it to Ryota to keep it out of her hands. In the anime, Yumeko simply pulls her hand back to keep the record out of Saori’s possession (Chapter 19).
  • In the anime, a conversation that occurred in the manga between Mary, Yumeko, Itsuki, and Ryota was cut out. Mary suggests Yumeko to make a copy of the recording and Itsuki gives her tickets to Yumemi’s show as a token of friendship (Chapter 20).
  • Mary and Ryota were shown to be very into Yumemi’s concert, with both of them gaining Yumemi’s trademark star pupils in one panel. This was omitted from the anime. (Chapter 20).
  • Yumemi and Yumeko’s idol outfits in the anime were different from the manga (Chapter 20).

Trivia[]

  • The name of the episode is a pun on "love-dancing" (愛踊る) and "idol" (アイドル).
