The Confession Girls is the eighth chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Mary explains how Chitose cheated during the first round. In round two, Mary prevented that cheating. Sachiko questions how Mary stopped Chitose from using basic signs or her phone to communicate the girls’ choices with the boys. Mary believed Kurumi would change her confession because they couldn’t trust each other, which happened. She also informed Yukimi in a fake gambling den ownership transfer paper. Mary had explained to Tsuzura that she needed to take risks, which she did by switching to Kanade, the person most likely to pick Tsuzura back.
Mary reminds everyone that the wagers are doubled for the second round, and mocks Chitose and the boys. Kaori announces the end of the 50th Coupling Party. In the hallway, Mary apologizes to Tsuzura and Yukimi for suspecting them. In an emotional moment, Tsuzura hugs Mary and admits that she’s learned today that it’s important to believe in people. Mary then promises never to doubt them again. Later, Mary, Yukimi, and Tsuzura have dinner with Kanade, Ren, and Nobuya. Kanade tries to be friendly with Mary, but she rejects his advances. As she’s about to leave, Kanade makes false accusations of her being fatphobic. Mary debunks that idea and explains her frustration with Kanade's lack of dedication to Tsuzura. Kanade was just fine with being coupled with anyone. Mary despises Kanade's fickleness and walks out. Ren complains, and Kanade starts to take an interest in Mary.
Plot[]
Mary informs Chitose that she knew the whole time about her cheating. During round one, Mary had only revealed her confession choice to Tsuzura, but five couples were still formed. Mary is certain that she wouldn't betray her. Tsuzura gets happy. Mary found something else weird: Mikura, the dealer, never called them by their name while the game was in progress. She was only using terms such as "number one" or "next girl". Mary thought about it and remembered the forms they submitted would set up their turn order.
The girls had sat in the order they wrote down and followed the same order in their confession. Mary considered the possibility that they had the wrong order in the sheets. If the girls were all shifted down a slot, the boys would have time to confirm the girls' confession targets, and choose in the next turn the girl who had just confessed.
When Mary had confronted Sachiko, she had never denied that cheating was going on. Mikura knew about it too. Mary understood that the only person who could've swapped the order was the sheets submitter, Chitose. In round two, Mary submitted the order herself, which ended Chitose's plans.
Sachiko explains that Chitose could still communicate the girls' choices with a phone or hand signals. The girls would have lost if Chitose revealed their choice. Sachiko demands an explanation of how Mary countered that. Mary responds that she simply trusted Tsuzura, Yukimi, and Kurumi. Kurumi and her couldn't trust each other, so Mary believed Kurumi would change her confession, which happened. Kurumi laughs. Mary continues her explanation. She told Yukimi what she was attempting in writing. Mary trusted she wasn't the mole. Chitose says that she watched over Mary the entire time, but didn't notice. She understands after thinking it over. When Mary had given Yukimi a room ownership contract, Yukimi understood that there was a trick to it since the room wasn’t even one Mary owned.
Yukimi thus changed her pick. Chitose doesn't comprehend how Mary could've convinced Tsuzura to pick Kanade. It was clear that Kanade was supposedly into Tsuzura. Tsuzura explains that Mary remembered their promise and told her to take on more risks in order to become a winner. She had only been talking to Kanade so this was the biggest risk and she took it.
Mary summarizes her plan as a trap into which the boys fell. She then reminds everyone that the wagers were double for the second round. Mary mocks Chitose and the boys. Kaori announces the end of the 50th Coupling Party. In the hallway, Mary apologizes to Tsuzura and Yukimi for suspecting them. Yukimi tells her it’s okay. Tsuzura rushes to hug Mary. She admits that she was afraid.
Tsuzura explains that she's always pulling Mary down and thought she had given up on her. She bursts into tears. Tsuzura adds that she learned an important lesson today, which is to believe in people. Mary promises to never doubt Tsuzura and Yukimi again.
Later, Mary, Yukimi, and Tsuzura have dinner with Kanade, Ren, and Nobuya. Kanade tries to be friendly with Mary, but she quickly turns him down. When she finishes the main meal, Mary starts heading out and thanks Kanade for paying. Kanade then made scurrilous claims about Mary supposedly being fatphobic. Mary refutes that claim. Kanade had chosen Yukimi and tried "sleepover" despite his presumed love of Tsuzura. If Kanade had picked Tsuzura, the couple would've succeeded. Mary hates the fact that Kanade is satisfied with anyone and doesn't dedicate himself to Tsuzura alone. As Mary walks out, Ren complains. Kanade now takes a liking to her.
