Why do we want more friends? The reason's simple. When people are cornered, we give them a final chance. We're talking about people who'll be housepets if they fail. Those housepets join Full-Bloom because we're all friends, and if we're friends, they'll always put us first. Yes, even before Aoi Mibuomi. We both want to take over the Full-Bloom society!

Naoko & Houko Ougatou to Mary Saotome

The Deadline Girl is the 23rd chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.

Summary[]

Sachiko tells Kirari about her match with Mary. Kirari is interested in Mary’s imagination and asks Sachiko to introduce her to Mary, but Sachiko refuses, saying that Mary is her pet. The room fees deadline is today, and Mary has no way of making money. She hands Tsuzura cash to pay her fees and Yukimi’s. Mary then goes to the Public Morals Committee, as she has no other way of making money. She blames herself for the loss and believes that she didn't have it in her to become a winner.

Mikura finds Mary waiting at the Public Morals Committee's door. She thinks that Mary has decided to serve Sachiko. Mikura then tells Mary that the Mary she knows would never give up. Mary is certain that there is nothing she can do this time. She has no money or person to turn to. Mikura was willing to help Mary not to become a housepet because she doesn't her to become Sachiko's pet. She explains to Mary that some gambling dens are opened with goals other than earning money. Mikura will bring Mary to the Ougatou sisters.

Meanwhile, Tsuzura and Yukimi were alone in their gambling den. Yukimi believes that nobody came because of Sachiko defeating everyone before. Tsuzura suggests that they gamble somewhere with their room fees. Kurumi enters the room and convinces them that it's pointless. She explains that if they fail, Mary will get even sadder, and if they succeed, Sachiko can close the room, leaving them with no income. Kurumi reminds them that they owe her five million. Tsuzura asks her what to do. Kurumi lays out two options: Becoming Sachiko's pet or building a fortune. She admits that there is no telling what Mary will do.

Mary meets the Ougatou sisters. They already know her name because she is always at the head of the class, she has turned down Aoi's invite despite being his favorite, and because of her successive wins against Sakura and Ouri. The twins think that Mary means trouble for the Full-Bloom Society. They admit to her that they are councilors of Full-Bloom, and tell her that anyone who wishes ill of them needs to be weeded out. Mikura asks the sisters to drop the act and get down to business.

Mikura knows that they're making fun of Mary, as there is no way they're thinking of anything as noble as working in the name of Full-Bloom. Naoko & Houko know that Mary needs five million. They're willing to bet that. The stakes are that Mary and Mikura will become friends with them if they lose, which surprises Mary. The sisters say that they need one hundred friends because when people are about to become housepets, they're given a final chance by them. Those people then join Full-Bloom because they're friends with them. They put the Ougatou siblings first, even before Aoi. Naoko and Houko admit that they want to take over the Full-Bloom Society.

Plot[]

Sachiko tells Kirari about her match with Mary[]

Sachiko explains to Kirari that card edges can be cut in different ways making each pattern just a tad unlike the others. She adds that it's even used in casinos. Kirari asked her if she used that to cheat. Sachiko replies that Mary had accused her of it. She then says that this cheat is far from realistic, but Mary must have thought she'd be able to pull it off. Kirari likes the fact that Mary has quite an imagination. She asks Sachiko to introduce Mary to her. Sachiko refuses, saying that Mary is her pet.

Room Fees Deadline[]

The room fees deadline is today. Tsuzura asks Mary to head to their gaming room with her. Mary refuses, as she thinks they won't make much money in the remaining time. Mary hands cash to Tsuzura so she can pay her fees and Yukimi's. Tsuzura doesn't want to accept it, but Mary tells her that it's fine. Mary then blames herself for the loss. Tsuzura, worried, asks Mary what she's going to do to avoid becoming a housepet. Mary says she'll go against Sachiko again. Tsuzura tries to convince Mary not to go, but she still does, saying that she has no other choice. Mary apologized, as she left.

Mikura’s Solution[]

Mary can't bring herself to even face Sachiko after losing five million yen she had earned with Tsuzura and Yukimi. Mary believes that she was an idiot, and desires to keep Tsuzura and Yukimi from becoming housepets. She then tells herself that she didn't have it in her to become a winner. Mary is waiting at the Public Morals Committee, sad. Mikura arrives, scaring Mary. She then asks Mary what brings her here. Mikura thinks that Mary has finally decided to serve Sachiko. Mary tells Mikura to shut up, saying it has nothing to do with her. Mikura then asks Mary if she's fine with this, adding that the Mary she knows would never give up.

Mikura thinks that Mary never misses a chance to come back and that she's willing to use anything and everything to win in the end. Mary says that there is nothing she can do this time. She has no money and no one to turn to. Mary thinks it's over for her, but Mikura tells her that she knows after having observed her that Mary can get through this. Mary is surprised about Mikura going that far to look out for her. Mikura angrily asks Mary if she really thought that she'd let her become Sachiko's pet. Mikura adds that Sachiko had given her a collar she's wearing and that she'd never allow anyone else to have it.

Mikura is willing to help Mary not to become a housepet despite not liking it. Mary thinks at first that Mikura is about to give her money. Mikura answers that she's a housepet because she can't afford not to be. She then tells Mary that there is something she has that Mary doesn't: Information about this school. She thinks that Mary doesn't know most of the gambling dens since she's a new student.

She explains to Mary that not all of the gambling dens are opened with the goal of earning money, so some dens have her bet with things besides cash. Mikura will show Mary one that gives outstanding payouts but reminds her that it'll come with an equal amount of risk. She'll bring Mary to the Ougatou sisters, Full-Bloom Society leaders.

Tsuzura and Yukimi at the Gambling Den[]

Meanwhile, Tsuzura and Yukimi are alone in their gambling den. Yukimi believes that nobody came because of the time Sachiko had beaten everyone. Tsuzura suggests that they gamble somewhere with their room fees. Kurumi arrives and tells them that if they mess up, Mary will get even sadder. She adds that it'll be pointless even if they succeed because Sachiko has got her eye on this room. They'll never know when Sachiko will just storm into this room and wreck it. Nobody will frequent a place like this.

Even if they earn a lot of money, they'll be left with zero income and no way to pay next time because of Sachiko, who'll shut the room down. Kurumi then points out that they owe her 5 million. Tsuzura asks her what to do. Kurumi answers that there are two paths available: Becoming Sachiko's personal housepet and begging her for money or finding a way to build a fortune so they'll never worry about room fees again. Kurumi admits that there is no telling what unexpected thing Mary will do.

Naoko & Houko Ougatou[]

The Ougatou sisters welcome Mary. Mary is surprised about them knowing her name. They answer that they've heard it because Mary is always at the head of the class and she's turned down Aoi's invite despite being his favorite. They add that she has defeated Sakura and Ouri one after the other. The siblings are both sensing trouble for the Full-Bloom Society[1]. They then tell Mary that they're councilors of the society and that anyone who wishes ill of them needs to be weeded out.

Mikura tells them to drop the act and to get down to business. Mary is surprised about Mikura knowing that the sisters were acting. Mikura says that they're making fun of Mary and that there is no way they're thinking of anything as noble as working in the name of Full-Bloom. The Ougatou sisters know that Mary needs five million. They're wealthy, so they don't mind betting five million for no money. The stakes chosen by the sisters are: Mary and Mikura have to become friends with them if they lose. Mary is perplexed by this.

Naoko and Houko explain that they want to make one hundred friends. Mary asks them why betting money for it. They answer that when people who are about to become housepets are cornered, they're given a final chance by them. Those people then join Full-Bloom because they're friends with them. Those people put the Ougatou siblings first, even before Aoi. Mary is shocked, as she understands their scheme. Naoko and Houko say that they want to take over the Full-Bloom Society.
