The Destined Girl is the 58th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Aoi admitted to Mary that he might be afraid of Kirari. He recognizes that her strength is beyond any realm of normality. Aoi tells Mary that he’s never met someone like her, who understood a weakness in him that he didn’t notice and told him about it. He didn’t meet someone like her in the Student Council or Full-Bloom society. Aoi says that he’ll beat Mary and become stronger by doing that.
He then places his last card against Mary’s army. Aoi’s last card was a Jack. He believes that he’s beating Yukimi’s army, and that Tsuzura’s army is beating him. Aoi supposes that the battle against Mary’s army is close. He knows that since he placed his card here, Mary is bound to play hers on this column as well.
Aoi thinks that the results will all be a matter of what cards they drew. He feels strange, as he went through a lot of trouble setting this up for them to end up betting everything on sheer luck. Mary places her last card. If the Literary Club wins this second round, they win the whole match. Sachiko wonders who will be the winner. The showdown begins. Aoi wins the first column 23 to 19. The Literary Club wins the second showdown 19 to 18.
Plot[]
Aoi admitted to Mary that he might be afraid of Kirari. He recognizes that her strength is beyond any realm of normality. Aoi isn’t sure that he could defeat Kirari. Mary asks Aoi to confirm that he’s scared. Aoi answers that the thing that makes Kirari scary is that winning isn’t her only objective. Her only objective is to get pleasure. She wouldn’t mind taking herself down with her opponent if she thought it would be more fun.
Aoi thus justifies his choice of avoiding Kirari by saying he wanted to keep it safe. He explains that he doesn’t see the call to action as something driven by fear. He says that he sees it as the result of pure calculation. Aoi then calls his whole justification an excuse. All the spectators are confused. Aoi tells Mary that he’s never met someone like her, who understood a weakness in him that he didn’t notice and told him about it.
He didn’t meet someone like her in the Student Council or Full-Bloom society, not even Sakura was like that. Aoi says that he’ll beat Mary, and become stronger by doing that. He then places his ninth and final card against Mary’s army. Aoi’s last card was a Jack, a face card. He believes that he’s most likely beating Yukimi’s army, and that Tsuzura’s army is beating him.
Mary places her last card of round two. If the Literary Club wins this second round, they win the whole match. Sachiko informs Mikura that people don’t have a direct view of their weaknesses, especially people with advanced skills or in advanced positions. She adds that those who can recognize their weak points are truly strong. She wonders who the winner will be. The showdown begins. Aoi wins the first column 23 to 19. The Literary Club wins the second showdown 19 to 18.
