The Exposing Girl is the 26th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
When the 5th round begins, Mary, the dealer, believes that she and Mikura have to play for keeps. The Ougatou sisters believe that they found out Mary and Mikura’s signs. Naoko attempts a reveal right before Mikura and guesses wrong. Mary explains that they’ve been using two sets of signs.
Round 6 begins with Houko as the dealer. Ouri played a card that was legal and revealed right after. She guessed that the rule was to play a multiple of three, a heart, an even club, then an odd diamond. This shocks all the four other players. Called out for cheating, Ouri reveals that she accomplished this by picking up on Naoko and Houko's signs. Ouri declares that players who use such “childish” signs and those who don't even notice and get played are all very low level. Ouri adds that she's at a gathering of fools. This angers Houko and Mikura.
Mikura is the dealer during round 7. Mary doesn't want to reveal early. After a couple of cards are played, Ouri guesses that the rule is to play an odd diamond then an odd heart. Ouri had also deciphered the tells of Mary and Mikura. They slammed the table to indicate a switch in sets of signals. Ouri says that she hadn't revealed right away to give the Ougatou sisters a chance. She concluded that they were disloyal, incompetent people. Since she had no use for them, she said she didn't need to bother eliminating them all.
Houko gets furious and tells Naoko that they'll play seriously and use their complex set of signals. Naoko picks a rule card for round 8 and immediately announces the rule to Houko using complex signals. Ouri instantly reveals, saying that the rule is to play odd cards in club-spade-diamond-club order. As Houko is stunned, Ouri declares that worthless trash should go die.
Plot[]
Round 5[]
Mary is the dealer. She tells Mikura that from now on, they have to play for keeps and earn as many points as possible every round if they’re going to win. Mikura asks Mary about someone else guessing the rule. Mary answers that sitting silently won't help them to defeat the Ougatou sisters. She thinks that they must take risks. Mary plays a legal two of hearts. Houko thinks that Mary and Mikura have found a ray of hope that they can win if they work together. She still believes that it’s impossible for them to win. The siblings will steal Mary and Mikura’s signals. They're on the softball team, so they've stolen signs tons of times.
Houko plays jack of hearts, which is illegal. The sisters are certain that they’ve read Mary’s signs correctly. Mikura plays six of spades, which is legal. Naoko plays a legal nine of hearts. Ouri’s five of diamonds is illegal. Mary plays an illegal four of clubs. The Ougatou siblings think that Mary and Mikura communicate by tapping on the table a given number of times with different fingers. They think that the finger indicates the suit and the number of taps is the number on the card. Houko's five of spades is illegal. Mikura was about to reveal, but Naoko said it faster.
She guesses that the rule is to play a heart and then a spade that's a multiple of three. Houko is convinced of their victory and wonders which two out of her three opponents will become housepets. However, Mary says that Naoko was wrong. Naoko is puzzled. Mikura then plays a legal four of spades and reveals. She guesses that the rule is to play a heart and then an even spade. Mary answers that Mikura is correct. Houko can’t believe it, even after seeing the rule card. She was certain that she read Mary’s signs correctly. Mary tells her that they're not that stupid and that they had two different sets of signals. They had used the second one.
Naoko tells her younger sister to stay calm. She believes that they must be signaling which set they'll be using, so they're just going to have to read that to be in the clear.
Round 6[]
Houko, who is the dealer, selects a rule and plays an illegal card. Mikura thinks that they can’t let Naoko and Houko have any more points. She plays ace of hearts, which is illegal. Naoko then plays a legal three of clubs. Mikura believes that victory will be theirs if they can read the siblings’ signs. Ouri plays a legal six of hearts. She reveals immediately after her card is approved, which surprises the Ougatou sisters.
Ouri guesses that the rule is to play a club that's a multiple of three, a heart, an even club, and then an odd diamond. Houko can't believe that Ouri could have guessed that. The rest of the players are also shocked. Houko accuses Ouri of cheating. Ouri answers by asking how is she supposed to cheat in a game prepared by the siblings using the cards provided by them. She says that she knows the rule she could read them. Ouri had picked up on their signals:
Signals | Meaning |
---|---|
Left elbow down | Multiple of three |
Right elbow down | Odd |
Both elbow down | Even |
One finger out | Spades |
Two fingers out | Hearts |
Three fingers out | Clubs |
Four fingers out | Diamonds |
Ouri declares that players who use such “childish” signs and those who don't even notice and get played are all very low level. Ouri adds that she's at a gathering of fools. This angers Houko and Mikura. Mikura asks Ouri if she knows what the rule she just picked is. Ouri answers that she can figure it out in time.
Round 7[]
Houko saw Mikura signaling that they'll be using the first set. However, she believes that it's a bluff and they'll be using the second set. She wants to decode it before Ouri does. Mary noticed that when Ouri gets serious about a game, she's strong. Mary doesn't want to attempt a reveal this early. She believes that they won't be able to turn the tables on them if they get cold feet. Mary places a legal nine of diamonds. Mary thinks that this move should have given the players a hint. She's reassured, as nobody attempted a reveal. Houko's eight of hearts is illegal. As well as Mikura's seven of clubs. Ouri reveals that the rule is to play an odd diamond then an odd heart, shocking both Mary and Mikura.
She had deciphered their tells. According to Ouri, Mary and Mikura slamming the table were signs to switch systems. She hadn't revealed right away because she wanted to give the Ougatou sisters a chance. Ouri believed that despite being traitors, they might have still proven to be useful. She concludes that all she has gathered is that they’re both worthless. Ouri adds that she has no use for disloyal, incompetent people and that she doesn't need to bother eliminating them at all. This makes Houko furious. She tells her older sister to play for real. This is exactly what Mary feared: The sisters getting serious and using all kinds of complex signals.
Round 8[]
Naoko picks a rule card and immediately announces the rule to Houko with complex signals. Ouri instantly reveals: Odd cards in club-spade-diamond-club order. Houko is stunned. Ouri asks Houko if she didn't hear her. She then says that worthless trash should go die while pointing at her.
