The Fearful Girl is the 72nd chapter of Kakegurui, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura.

Summary

Mary and Yumeko can read each other’s hands because of marks that were placed by Erimi and Miyo. The deck of cards used wasn’t changed. In the second round, Mary and Yumeko exchange their marked cards, and receive unmarked ones. Mary wins the second round which had a wager of twenty votes.

The presence of the Totobami clan allows The Hundred Devouring Families to stay unified. Terano gauges the desires and wants of every side and adjusts them to the results she wants. Ibara believes that Terano is trying to adjust the entire council election to get the result she wants.

Plot

Rock Paper Scissors Poker

Mary gained ten votes from the first showdown. Mary is proud to have defeated Yumeko even though it was just one round and the wager was small. Mary figured that Yumeko’s hand would be mostly made of scissors because she saw two marked scissors cards. Mary thinks that Yumeko can see through her hand too, and that she knows that her hand is being read. It’s easy to counter that. They just have to put their hand over their hand. However, they want to see each other’s hands.

The second round begins and they both exchange their marked cards and receive unmarked ones. They bet twenty votes. Mary wins again with paper against rock. Yumeko says that being scared was her downfall. This shocks Mary. Yumeko says that she's glad to see Mary in the finals. Yumeko is having a lot of fun.

Terano says that it's time to butt in. Ibara doesn't understand what she meant. He asks Rin to explain to him, but he doesn't because Terano told him to not tell anyone.

Flashback

There is a flashback of Rin swindling Miyo and the Inbami family. Miyo is about to start a war between the Inbamis and the Obamis for that, but Terano solves the conflict by making them work together. She saw what both sides were after and found a way for everyone to be happy. The Totobami family is like a balance. Their presence allows The Hundred Devouring Families to stay unified. Terano is a prodigy even among them, she can make people behave rationally. She's more sensitive to people’s wants than anyone else. Terano gauges the desires and wants of every side and adjusts them to the results she wants. Ibara believes that Terano is trying to adjust the entire council election.
