Summary[]
The Literary Club is about to take on Aoi. Students make predictions. Ruri informs the players about the bets on them. 2.88 million yen are bet for the Literary Club, and 20.25 million for Aoi. Yukimi calculates that they will either win or lose 17.37 million yen. If they lose, they owe an additional ten million to Aoi. Yukimi knows that they can’t cover all of this money. Mary tells Yukimi that the stats don’t matter, and their only choice here is to win. Ruri deals the cards. Every member of the Literary Club is the general of her army. Mary thinks that if at least two armies need to win, sacrificing one of them is part of basic strategy. Mary realizes that Aoi is playing for keeps as much as them. Aoi has an 8, 2, and K against the Literary Club’s 5, K, and 3. The Literary Club is losing by a tiny margin. The cards in Mary’s hands are 4, 5, 10, Q, and 8. Ruri announces that it’s time for the first battle and bets will be accepted until the end of this turn. The Literary Club will place a card on one of its armies first. Tsuzura and Yukimi’s armies are losing. Mary’s army is winning. Mary thinks that she doesn’t need to place a card in her army since she’s winning. Yukimi suggests that Mary places their 4 in her army. It would make the value of Yukimi’s army 9, putting Yukimi ahead of Aoi. Mary accepts. Aoi places a card against Yukimi’s army. Mary goes on the offensive by placing her 8 in Yukimi’s army. The first card gets flipped, revealing to Aoi that they played a 4 earlier. Aoi places a card in Mary’s army. Mary was up by 11 on this column thanks to her King against Aoi’s 2. She feels as if Aoi placed an ace in this column. The ace would cancel Mary’s K, giving Aoi a lead of 2 points on this column.
Mary places a 10 in her column. This is the strongest card that can’t be canceled out with an ace. Yukimi is certain that Mary’s army is now guaranteed to win. Tsuzura’s army is very weak and it would be hard to stage a comeback with it, so Yukimi thinks that Mary should focus on her army. Aoi places a card against Yukimi’s army. He reveals that the first card he placed was a 3. By face-up cards alone, Aoi is ahead by 2. Tsuzura believes that if Aoi has an ace, he used it in Mary’s army. Mary places a Queen on Yukimi’s army. Aoi puts a card against Mary’s army. The Literary Club knows that the third showdown will be won by Aoi. Yukimi is convinced that her army will win its showdown. She thinks it’ll all come down to Mary’s army. Aoi turns around his second placed card against Yukimi’s army. It’s a 10. The girls are shocked. Aoi placed a 10 for his second card, even though it put him behind. Mary hesitates about where to place the last card of her deck. Yukimi is considering Mary's army or hers for their last card placement. She wants to abandon Tsuzura’s army, as the 5 would change nothing. Mary informs her teammates that she’s going to make a really risky bet. Mary believes that this is the only way she can surpass Aoi. She places her 5 in Tsuzura’s army. Yukimi is shocked, as they’re 100% sure to lose this army’s showdown.
