Mary Saotome to herself

The Frustrated Girl is the 53rd chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.

Summary[]

Mary asks Aoi why he said that he’s no enemy to her. She tells Aoi that she totally outwitted him a moment ago. Aoi says that he didn’t. According to Sakura, Aoi is looking at Mary with a mixture of kindness and pity. She can’t understand why Aoi is giving Mary this look, as Mary clearly won the first battle. Aoi explains that he threw the game on the round they’ve just played, shocking Mary. Mary doesn’t understand how losing helps Aoi. Aoi reminds Mary of the Great Bloom Memorial. There is an ongoing festival where students bet on which gambling den will win the Great Bloom Prize. The odds are set in stone in advance. Kirari fixed the odds in place. Aoi wants to use Kirari’s own madness against her.

The odds for the Literary Club’s victory are 500 to 1. If the Literary Club wins this game, it will make a lot of cash. Aoi bet that he’d win Conquer the Land. He also bet that the Literary Club would win the Great Bloom Prize. He placed one billion on each bet. The Literary Club members are stunned. If Aoi loses, the Literary Club receives one billion yen. In a normal year, that’s enough to win the Great Bloom Prize. The Student Council would take measures against a con like this. However, they’re distracted by their public matches.

If everything goes according to Aoi’s plan, Kirari will owe him 500 billion yen. He’s certain that even Kirari can’t pay that much. Kirari would thus have to resign from being the president. That’s the true Call to Action Aoi is carrying out. Everything the Full-Bloom society has done up to now was all for the sake of this single gamble. Aoi asks Mary if she understands what he means by telling her that she’s no enemy. He says that his true enemy is Kirari. Aoi wants Mary to just win and she’ll earn a billion yen.

Yukimi is stupefied, as she realizes that if they split, with the 333 million yen she’d have, she’d never be a mittens again. Tsuzura realizes that they can finally become winners in life. Everything would go how they want it to. Aoi asks Mary to just win this game for him to walk home with one billion yen. Yukimi doesn’t believe they have a choice. She admits to herself that there is risk to inflicting losses of 500 billion yen to the president. However, if they lose, they’d owe Aoi a billion yen. They’d all become housepets their entire lives.

Inaho stops an angry crowd of students from entering the arena of the Conquer the Land game. She tells them that the arena is at full capacity. The students know about Aoi fixing a match, in which there is a billion yen riding on, so the Literary Club wins. Inaho says that she accepts bets here too. Sachiko walks toward the doors and everyone moves out of her way.

Mary is sad because she went through so much after Aoi beat him. She thought she’d finally have vindication against him. However, she didn’t even register in his mind. Tsuzura asks Mary what she wants to do. Mary knows that winning is their only option, but letting Aoi have his way with her frustrates her. She can’t stand it and begins to cry.
