It shows how badly she needs the money. Ugly or not, she’ll do anything for her goals, and I’m the same way.

Mary Saotome to Kurumi Kurume talking about Nadeshiko Rurichou

The Girl’s Observational Results is the 38th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.

Summary[]

Kurumi believes that it’s impossible for the coin count to be 22. She’s convinced that Nadeshiko gave the right answer. Before they empty the banks, Mary thanks Nadeshiko for making her cheat crystal clear to her. Mary figured out that Nadeshiko thinks they have thirteen coins each. Mary empties her banks. There were 9 coins inside of it, meaning that the total coin count is 22. Nadeshiko can’t believe it. Mary explains that Nadeshiko was cheating with sound or weight. Mary figured out that it’s impossible to judge on sound alone, leaving only weight.

Mary thinks that Nadeshiko learned the weights from the box with the 600 coins in it. When this box has every coin, it weighs 1500 grams. Mary theorized that Nadeshiko could know the box’s weight at any moment. When Nadeshiko was looking at her watch, she wasn’t checking the time; she was checking the weight of the box. Nadeshiko figured out the coins Mary took by using the box’s weight. The sound could help her know the exact combo of coins. Nadeshiko doesn’t deny her cheating, but she asks Mary how she put thirty-seven grams worth of coins into her bank.

Mary tapped a 500 yen coin under the lid to alter the weight of the box. Mary then shows a coin on a string that she had attached to her index. She explains that while she was putting coins, if Nadeshiko was using sound, she would have guessed that Mary had 10 coins. Nadeshiko would have lost either way. Nadeshiko smirks and says that Mary doesn’t know her coin count yet. There are 12 coins in Nadeshiko’s bank, for a total of 21. They both guessed the wrong number, so Nadeshiko is still 3.1 million yen ahead. Mary slams the table. Kurumi heard a coin, so she checks Nadeshiko’s bank. Nadeshiko had left a coin inside of it. She hid it with a magnet. Normally, the coins don’t stick to magnets, but the older 50 yen coins, made from 1955 to 1966, do, since they’re made of nickel. Nadeshiko did this as extra insurance. They realize how badly Nadeshiko needed the money.

Nadeshiko asks Mary to cut down the payout to half. Mary needs the money too and declines. She angrily asks Nadeshiko for her money. Mary never expected to make this much in one day. Kurumi is amazed by Mary, as losing once didn’t faze her at all. Mary has got the heart to never give up. She saw through Nadeshiko’s tricks and trapped her herself. Kurumi believes that Mary will fight against Aoi someday.

Meanwhile, Sachiko called Sakura to her office because she wants to know what Full-Bloom is up to. This group has become more active during the Great Bloom Festival. Sachiko wants Sakura to leak Aoi’s plans. Sakura says that she doesn’t know anything and that even if she did, she’d have no duty to reveal Aoi’s plans. Sakura then asks Sachiko to promise to help her, as she wants to stop Aoi.

Plot[]

Kurumi believes that it’s impossible for the coin count to be 22. She’s convinced that Nadeshiko gave the right answer. Before they empty the banks, Mary thanks Nadeshiko for making her cheat crystal clear to her. Mary figured out that Nadeshiko thinks they have thirteen coins each. Mary empties her banks. There were 9 coins inside of it, meaning that the total coin count is 22. Nadeshiko can’t believe it. Mary explains that there are two elements to this game: Sound and weight, meaning that Nadeshiko is cheating on one of those two elements. She figured out that it’s impossible to judge on sound alone, so that leaves only weight.

Mary tapped a 500 yen coin under the lid. It weighs seven grams. This is the same weight as one 50 yen coin and three one yen coins combined. Mary took tape when she said she was going to the bathroom. Nadeshiko is angry and thinks Mary was lucky to find out that she wasn’t cheating with sound. Mary shows a coin on a string that she had attached to her index. Mary explains that while she was putting coins, if Nadeshiko was using sound, she would have guessed that Mary had 10 coins. Nadeshiko would have lost either way. Mary is now up 2.9 million yen.

Nadeshiko smirks and says that Mary doesn’t know her coin count yet. There are 12 coins in Nadeshiko’s bank, for a total of 21. They both guessed the wrong number, so Nadeshiko is still 3.1 million yen ahead. Mary slams the table. Kurumi heard a coin. She checks Nadeshiko’s bank. Nadeshiko had left a coin inside of it. Mary realizes that Nadeshiko badly needs the money. She’ll do anything for her goals, and Mary is the same.

Nadeshiko admits that she does need money to buy a Steinways piano.
