Mary Saotome challenging Nagi Kamishimo

The Girl They Battle Over (Part 1) is the 40th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.

Summary[]

Nagi comes into the Literary Club's room and notices that Mary isn't here. Mary was gambling in other dens. She lost a game and Kurumi told her that losing happens. Kurumi then shows Mary the ticket booth for the Great Bloom Memorial. Kurumi explains that people can bet on which club will win the prize with the Great Bloom Memorial. The student council's treasurers act as bookmakers by evaluating each group and assigning odds to them. Groups that get bet on a lot have lower payoffs set to them. Groups that don't get bet on a lot have higher payoffs set for them. Mary doesn't want to bet. She then notices that the Literary Club's odds are five hundred to one. Mary heads back to the Literary Club's den. She tells Kurumi that she doesn’t care about the Great Bloom Prize.

Mary meets Nagi and Soutarou. Kurumi lets Mary know that they're both in Full-Bloom. Mary asks them what they want. Nagi answers that they're done here. He then approaches Mary and tells her that she's really nobody big at all. Mary gets angry. Nagi adds that he was wondering why Aoi liked her, but he's disappointed at the Literary Club running this room. Nagi shows money that he received from playing Little Max. Mary challenges him in a gamble. Nagi is thrilled and accepts.

Plot[]

Tsuzura defeats players at Little Max. Nagi comes into the room and notices that Mary isn't here.

Mary was gambling in other dens. She lost a game and Kurumi told her that losing happens. Kurumi then shows Mary the ticket booth for the Great Bloom Memorial. Kurumi explains that people can bet on which club will win the prize with the Great Bloom Memorial. The student council's treasurers act as bookmakers by evaluating each group and assigning odds to them. Groups that get bet on a lot have lower payoffs set to them. Groups that don't get bet on a lot have higher payoffs set for them. It's set up so the organization pays out more money than it takes in. Kurumi adds that the Great Bloom Memorial could even become an Achilles' heel for the student council.

Mary tells Kurumi not to get her involved. The Literary Club's odds are five hundred to one[1]. Mary refuses to bet and heads back to the Literary Club's den. Mary explains that they're lacking in base funds, and customers need to see potential big returns before they take big risks. She also tells Kurumi that she doesn’t care about the Great Bloom Prize.

Mary meets Nagi and Soutarou. Kurumi lets Mary know that they're both in Full-Bloom. They're also both second-years in Kurumi's class. Mary asks them what they want. Nagi answers that they're done here. He then approaches Mary and tells her that she's really nobody big at all. Mary gets angry.
