Ibara, you’re getting very close. You’re only wrong on one count. People are a lot more foolish than you think. Victory has already been in the making.

Terano Totobami to Ibara Obami

The Girls' Will is the 73rd chapter of Kakegurui, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura.

Summary[]

Yumeko wins the third round’s showdown, which had a wager of forty votes. Terano plans on offering a gamble on the winner of the Grand Tournament. She’ll have them bet votes, then pay them back in cash if they win. As the bookmaker, Terano is guaranteed to earn votes no matter which one wins. Terano is also unsure that she could win the election if both Yumeko and Mary win the Grand Tournament. Terano had asked Yumi to make buyout gambles after the beginning of the Grand Tournament, so Yumeko couldn't have known about it. It means she had an inkling this would happen, Yumeko knew the bookmaker would be her enemy in the election.

Plot[]

The third round begins. The wager is forty votes. Midari realizes that Yumeko keeps betting the minimum amount of votes every round. She doesn’t think that it makes sense for Yumeko to do that because she has fewer votes than Mary. Yumeko bets 108 votes in the forth round. If she wins the showdown and the fifth round ends in a draw, both Yumeko and Mary will be the winners. This would cost Terano a lot of money.

Ibara notices that Terano is buying votes from her computers. By now, buying votes out is nearly impossible. Rin explains to Ibara that if you don’t have the money you got to buy low. They plan on offering a gamble on the winner of the Grand Tournament. They'll have them bet votes, then pay them back in cash if they win. As the bookmaker, Terano is guaranteed to earn votes either way. Ibara says that it doesn't make sense. He says it'll take way too much money. He explains that it'll take the same amount of money as simply buying votes. Terano tells Ibara that he's only got one thing wrong. People are way more foolish than he thinks.

Yumeko wins the showdown with scissors against paper. Mary now has 358 votes, and Yumeko has 142 votes. Ririka notices that if Mary had won this showdown, she could afford to fold the next rounds, victory would have been guaranteed. It's like Mary thinks it's still too early to declare a winner.

The forth round begins. Mary bets eighty votes, which surprises Ryota. Ryota doesn’t understand why Mary bet the minimum again. Ririka tells him that this is enough to guarantee Mary the victory, she doesn’t need to take any further risk. However, this is not the case for Yumeko. Yumeko raises to 108 votes.

Terano had prepared to avoid this development, but it didn't work. Rin knows that Terano was aware that Yumeko is insane. She's an uncertain factor, there's no telling what she'll do. Terano realizes that she was making light of her. Ibara doesn't realize why Yumeko betting 108 votes a big deal. Terano explains to Ibara the clear aim of Yumeko. If Yumeko wins this showdown, Yumeko and Mary will have the same amount of votes. Yumeko wants this to end in a tie. If it the fifth round does end in a tie, both of them will be considered the champions. This would cost Terano a huge amount of money.

Terano would be able to pay that, but she needs to keep as much money as possible because the value of votes should plummet toward the end of the election. Terano is also unsure that she could win the election if both Yumeko and Mary win the Grand Tournament. Terano had asked Yumi to make buyout gambles after the beginning of the Grand Tournament, so Yumeko couldn't have known about it. It means she had an inkling this would happen.

Yumeko knew the bookmaker would be her enemy in the election. Yumeko doesn't even know that Terano is running this. She's gambling with someone she can't be sure exists. It's a battle between Yumeko and Terano.
