The Lily-Gilded Girl is the 16th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Mary faces off against Ouri in the Test Battle Game tournament. Yumika is their dealer. One of the players has to draw a seating card first. Mary thinks that in many cases, the match is decided when the seating cards are drawn. Ouri asks Mary if it’s true that she turned down Aoi’s invitation. Mary is shocked. Ouri admits that she’s a councilor in Full-Bloom. She doesn’t comprehend why Mary declined Aoi’s invitation knowing that Full-Bloom’s goal is to free the housepets.
Ouri believes nobody should become someone’s housepet. She asks Mary again why she declined Aoi’s invitation. Mary responds that she doesn’t like his style and that she’d sooner drop dead than let Aoi give her orders, referring to him as a piece of trash. Ouri is furious at Mary for calling Aoi that. She believes that nobody is kinder than him. Mary explains that when Sakura got fired, she saw a side of Aoi that she hated. She believes it’s his true side. Ouri calls Mary a liar. She now wants to prove to Aoi that Mary is too weak for Full-Bloom anyways. The players finished drawing their seating cards.
Mary drew Tsuzura, and Ouri drew herself. Knowing her own grades, Ouri has a huge edge. Since Ouri is on scholarship, Mary knows that she has great grades. Mary considers the idea of the game being rigged. Mary picked Japanese and Ouri picked ethics. Mary wins with 72 against 69. Mary is perplexed because Ouri knows her own grades, yet, she picked a subject in which she had a low score. 69 shouldn’t be a high score for a student on a scholarship. Mary concludes that the gambling match was rigged.
Mary wins the next rounds until she reaches the finals. She can’t believe she’s winning this much. Kokoro congratulates Mary for reaching the finals. She explains that the stakes of 300,000 yen must be a lot for Mary and calls her poor. Mary’s classmates badmouth her. She understands that Kokoro was just trying to make her the laughingstock of the class. The final of the Test Battle Game tournament will be between Kokoro and Mary.
