Calling this an “equal” gamble was a bald-faced lie. The reason I invited you here, Saotome-san, was because she’s a total cheater through and through.

Kurumi Kurume to herself.

The Listening Girl is the 36th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.

Summary[]

Kirari finds out about Yumemi's concert. She explains to Sayaka that Yumemi is trying to make everyone here her prisoner. There is no telling what someone so dedicated to her would do. Kirari finds that interesting. Sayaka informs Kirari that Aoi might make his move during the Great Bloom Festival. She's shocked about Kirari not being disturbed at all.

Mary experiments the game. Her and Nadeshiko then decide on a bet. They start by betting 100,000 yen. Kurumi is excited to see Mary gamble. Mary puts coins in her bank. She wants to keep the coin count low because she believes that it's easier to misjudge with more coins. Mary places 3 one-yen coins and 4 fifty-yen coins. Nadeshiko tells Mary that she can hear the coins quite well. Mary asks Nadeshiko to guess then. Nadeshiko responds that no one is allowed to guess after the starting player puts her first money in, otherwise whoever goes first would win every time. Mary believes that Nadeshiko is bluffing. Mary thinks that the sound is just for reference and what the game truly comes down to is the scales.

Nadeshiko places coins in her bank. Mary's bank is slightly heavier. Nadeshiko's bank weighs under nineteen grams. After adding more coins, they're in perfect equilibrium. Mary currently has 9 one-yen coins and 9 fifty-yen coins, which weighs 45 grams. There are eleven possibilities for banks for Nadeshiko. Mary thinks that with the sound, she can narrow it down to six possibilities. Nadeshiko guesses that there are 42 coins in the banks. Mary finds out that Nadeshiko is toying with her. She believes that Nadeshiko's guess is a huge hint. Only three possibilities are remaining. Mary guesses 36 total coins. Nadeshiko thinks that she knows Mary's basis to guess this amount. Mary won, as there were 36 coins. In round two, they wager 300,000 yen. It results in a draw. Round three is a tie too. Mary wins round four. She also wins round five. She has won 2.9 million yen. Mary is happy and is about to walk away.

Nadeshiko provokes Mary to convince her to stay. Kurumi believes that Nadeshiko's provocations would work on nobody. However, it worked on Mary. They bet one million yen in round six. Kurumi hopes Mary won't regret her decision. Kurumi had lied to Mary by telling her that this gamble was equally balanced. Nadeshiko is a cheater. Nadeshiko says that the total coin count is 17.
