The Manipulative Girl is the 20th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Sachiko emerges victorious by a mile in Doubt Poker games against Nobuya, Ren, Haruto, and Mamoru. After the boys leave, she sits alone at the table because nobody wants to play with her. Sachiko thus challenges Mary to a one-on-one game. She proposes stakes that would ruin the Literary Club if they lost. Sachiko bets five million yen, but if she loses, she’ll hand ten million to Mary. Mary will also play with five million, which is all the money her club can gather. Mary accepts despite the huge risk. The game begins.
Plot[]
A Doubt Poker match between Sachiko, Ren, Haruto, Nobuya, and Mamoru. Mary has never seen Sachiko gamble. Sachiko takes two cards. Haruto is anxious about having to play with the morals committee’s head. He bets ten thousand. Nobuya folds. Mamoru and Sachiko call. Ren raises to five hundred thousand, shocking his friends. It’s an attempt to drag Sachiko to his side. Everybody but Sachiko folds. She calls.
Sachiko declares that she has a pair of kings while Ren says that he has three jacks. Mary doesn’t believe it’s worth it for Sachiko to risk doubting three jacks, which is a common hand. Sachiko doubts, which doubles her bet. Mary is stunned. Ren also doubts, in surprise. Sachiko defeats her opponent with a pair of kings against a pair of jacks. She told the truth and Ren lied.
Ren is angry about his loss. Sachiko tells him that he’s an open book and bores her. In the following rounds, Sachiko successfully doubted almost every time someone lied about their hand. The boys leave the room. Sitting alone at the table, Sachiko demands that Mary comes to join her. Yukimi understands that nobody wants to play against Sachiko, which cuts all of the club’s income. Mary doesn’t think going against the morals committee leader is a good idea. She still accepts.
Ouri rushes into Aoi’s office to inform him that Mary and Sachiko are playing a one-on-one game. Aoi acts nonchalant about it. Ouri explains that this might be an attempt by Sachiko to make Mary her housepet. Aoi responds that Sachiko is neutral despite being part of the student council, so she’s not an enemy. He believes that Ouri knows she won’t be able to take down Mary if she becomes Sachiko’s housepet and that’s the only reason she makes a big deal out of the situation. Ouri apologizes. Aoi tells her to not worry and that it’s time to kick things off.
Tsuzura is worried about the match Mary is about to play. She still understands that Mary thinks they have to take risks to become winners. Sachiko suggests they use another deck for the match because the old cards have worn out. She emphasizes that it isn’t a trick deck. After examining the card, Mary doesn’t find anything off. Sachiko is fine with Tsuzura staying the dealer. She then proposes to bet until one of them gets wiped out. Sachiko will play with five million yen and Mary will play until losing all of her money.
Mary realizes that Sachiko knows about the Literary Club’s finance. Five million is all they can gather together. If Mary wins, Sachiko will give her ten million instead of the five million she bet. The Doubt Poker game begins.
