The Merry-Making Girl is the 19th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Aoi meets up with Ouri. He knows about Mary gambling against her whole class, which Ouri is part of. Ouri justifies Mary’s win by explaining that Kokoro was simple-minded. She denies that Mary is good at gambling. Ouri then states that if anyone else does wrong to Full-Bloom, she’ll take them down. Aoi imagines Mary and Ouri going up against each other. He thinks the loser of a battle between those two would be crushed.
Tsuzura welcomes students to the Literary Club. It reopened after Mary thought of a game in which the guests had to play against each other: Doubt Poker. This permits the Literary Club to benefit from every game. Mary calculates that they currently have 30,000 yen and judges that it’s a small amount. Yukimi is happy, as they earned all this money with no risk. Mary remembers what Sachiko had told her.
Sachiko explained that she’d provide Mary with funds so she could gamble against Full-Bloom instead of her. She proposed giving Mary her spot as Morals Committee leader when she graduates in exchange. This committee can manage gambling dens, preside over disputes, and arrest students or correct their behaviors. Mary could do anything with that role, even rule the school. Mary had declined Sachiko’s offer.
Students are playing a game of Doubt Poker at the Literary Club’s den. Kanade is waiting for a seat. Jun suddenly gets up and complains after his loss. He accuses Ren of peeking at his cards. Jun, furious, tells Tsuzura that she’s a bad dealer. Mary intervenes. She lets him know that his accusation was baseless and that even if it was true, peeking at cards is a basic cheating method that players should look out for. Sachiko enters the room. She agrees with Mary and forces Jun to leave the room.
Sachiko then asks Mary if this lifestyle is really what she wants. Mary doubts that she can really become a winner doing what she’s currently doing. Sachiko sits down to join the game. Mary doesn’t understand why Sachiko would want to make small bets in a den like theirs.
Plot[]
The student council has its regular meeting. Aoi informs Kirari, who’s bored, that something interesting will happen. Sayaka notices that the atmosphere changes. Aoi leaves the meeting room and sees Ouri. He reveals that he knows about Mary gambling against her whole class, which Ouri is part of.
Ouri justifies Mary’s win by explaining that Kokoro was too simple-minded. She denies that Mary is good at gambling. Ouri then states that if anyone else does wrong to Full-Bloom as Mary did, she will take them down. Aoi imagines Mary and Ouri going up against each other. He thinks of them as different, but highly talented. Aoi thinks the loser of a battle between those two would be crushed.
Tsuzura welcomes students to the Literary Club. It reopened after Mary thought of a game in which the guests had to play against each other. This permits the Literary Club to benefit from every game. Doubt Poker follows the same basic ruleset of Poker. Each player is dealt 5 cards and allowed to exchange (face-down) any number of cards once. Players then Bet, Raise, Fold or Call. However, after each player's hand is set:
- Players must announce their hands (e.g., "Three 4s") — they can either be truthful or lie about the cards in their hand.
- Players can now "doubt". From the dealer forward, by paying the current bet a second time, a player can force another to reveal their hand.
Showdown begins:
- Players who were not doubted play with their cards face down and the value they announced.
- Players who were doubted reveal their hands.
- Doubt Fails (Truthful Players): Play with their hands revealed.
- Doubt Suceeds (Lying Players): Immediately lose regardless of their hands.
The remaining player with the best hand, either revealed or annouced, is the winner.
The Literary Club received loads of visitors, so the den’s reopening was a huge success. They’re seeing more regulars come. Mary calculates that they currently have 30,000 yen. She judges that it’s a small amount. Yukimi is happy, as they earned all of this money with no risk. Mary remembers what Sachiko had told her.
Sachiko explained that she’d provide Mary with funds so she could gamble against Full-Bloom instead of her. Mary didn’t think she had anything to gain. Sachiko proposed giving Mary her spot as Morals Committee leader when she graduates. The Morals Committee can manage gambling dens, preside over disputes, and arrest students or correct their behaviors. Mary could do anything with that role, even rule the school. Tsuzura was worried but realized that this could be the path for them to become winners. Mary declined Sachiko’s offer.
Ren, Nobuya, Mamoru, Haruto, and Jun are playing a game of Doubt Poker at the Literary Club’s den. Kanade is waiting for a seat. Jun suddenly gets up and complains after his loss. He believes that Ren was peeking at his cards. Tsuzura asks him to calm down. Jun, furious, tells her that she’s a bad dealer.
Mary intervenes. She lets him know that his accusation was baseless and that even if it was true, peeking at cards is a basic cheating method that players should look out for. Sachiko enters the room, accompanied by Mikura. She agrees with Mary and forces Jun to leave the room.
Sachiko then asks Mary if this lifestyle is really what she wants. Mary doubts that she can really become a winner doing what she’s currently doing. Sachiko sits down to join in the game. Mary doesn’t understand why Sachiko would want to make small bets in a gambling den like theirs.
