The Ostracized Girl is the 17th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Kokoro schemed the Test Battle Game tournament to make Mary the laughingstock of the class. Mary accuses Kokoro of cheating since she won match after match until facing her in the finals. Kokoro says that it doesn’t matter if she was actually cheating because that would make Mary earn 300,000 yen. Kokoro explains that the fact that the whole class thinks Mary is an idiot won’t change.
She also reminds Mary that she has no proof of cheating. Mary understands that nobody in the class wants to become class president, a role with a lot of responsibilities, for a mere 300,000 yen. Kokoro explains how she rigged the game to the reader. She had Yumika gather the highest and lowest test scores. Then, after the players picked a seat number and subject, they give a signal to Yumika. Yumika then picks a sheet from the chosen subject and replaces the name with the one whose card was picked.
The dealer, Yumika, is basically swapping out answer sheets. Kokoro had almost the whole class cooperation. Kokoro believes this match’s outcome doesn’t matter. If Mary wins, she becomes class president. If she loses, she’ll still be known as the poor girl who took this tournament seriously.
The finalists drew their seating cards. Kokoro drew Mary and Mary drew Ouri. Kokoro won’t be able to have Yumika swap out the answer sheet she gets now since she got Mary’s. Mary suggests that the winner has to pay the loser two million yen and that they play the game with the total combined test scores across all subjects. Kokoro is surprised.
She thinks that Mary made the wrong assumptions about her cheating method. Kokoro believes that Mary is confident about her grades since she’s a scholarship student and that she thinks she can make Kokoro, who drew her card, win. However, Ouri, the person who Mary drew, is also on scholarship. Kokoro is certain that Ouri has better grades than Mary.
Mary wins against Kokoro in the first five subjects all with perfect scores. The total difference in points is 30. Kokoro trash talks Mary, who gets desperate. Tsuzura steps in and gives Mary a pep talk. This makes Mary confident again. The next subject is a tie 98 to 98. Mary has a composed smile.
