Each and every one of you lost to me, a single player! … Don’t you feel ashamed of yourselves? You lose in test scores, and you lose in gambling. Apart from the money your parents gave you, is there anything you can beat me with? Picking on others, ignoring your own incompetence, I’m amazed at how shameless you all are! If you ask me, every one of you is just as stupid as the rest!

Mary Saotome to Hana class students

The Scorning Girl is the 18th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.

Summary[]

Only one subject remains in the Test Battle Game tournament’s final: Ethics. The winner will become the class representative and will have to pay 2,000,000 yen to the loser. Mary is winning against Kokoro with 598 to 568. Yumika announces the ethics scores. Mary’s score in ethics is a perfect 100 points. Kokoro now has cumulated 668 points. Yumika is shocked by Ouri’s score. Ouri scored 69.

Kokoro, who was about to celebrate, realizes that she’s won with 668 to 667 points. Kokoro becomes class representative and owes Mary two million yen. Mary tells her classmates that she won thanks to them. Mary knew they were swapping sheets and changing names. Kokoro can’t believe that Ouri could get a 69 in ethics. She considers the possibility of Yumika backstabbing her. Mary explains that Yumika actually covered for her. In the first round, Mary saw that Ouri’s grade in ethics was 69. If Ouri had a different score in ethics in this final round, Mary would have noticed the con anyways.

Kokoro asks why Mary didn’t pick that subject instead of going for a combined total score. Mary believes that Kokoro wouldn’t have accepted her side bet if they just went with ethics. Kokoro says that Mary’s win is a total coincidence and that things would have turned out differently if Mary got anybody other than Ouri. Mary confirms that. Kokoro doesn’t believe that Mary really agrees. She concludes that Mary rearranged the order of the subjects.

Most of the Hana class students mock Kokoro for becoming the class representative. Mary laughs, as she believes she’s seeing a bunch of idiots treating another idiot like an idiot. She explains that since they were all collaborating, they all lost to Mary, not just Kokoro. Mary adds that they all are stupid and challenges anyone to gamble right now at any price.

Mary leaves the classroom with Tsuzura. Sachiko walks up to Mary. She tells her that the Full-Bloom society is about to act. They plan to go on a war with the student council, which Sachiko is part of. Sachiko asks Mary to help her to fight against the Full-Bloom society.

Plot[]

Only one subject remains in the Test Battle Game tournament’s final. The winner will become the class representative and will have to pay 2,000,000 yen to the loser. Mary is winning against Kokoro with 598 to 568. Mary is playing with Ouri’s scores while Kokoro is playing with Mary’s scores. Kokoro points out that Ouri has better grades than Mary. Mary answers that she doesn’t think she’s the best and that she doesn’t need to be right now.

Yumika wants to get this match over with. She announces the ethics scores. Mary’s score in ethics is a perfect 100 points. Kokoro now has cumulated 668 points. The whole class believes that Ouri will also have a perfect score. Yumika is shocked by Ouri’s score. She wants to delay the announcement of her results. The Hana class students press Yumika to reveal Ouri’s score. Yumika thus says that Ouri scored 69.

Kokoro, who was about to celebrate, realizes that she’s won with 668 to 667 points. Kokoro becomes class representative and owes Mary two million yen. Mary tells her classmates that she won thanks to them. Kokoro now figures out that Mary knew most of the class was collaborating to make her win. Mary knew they were swapping sheets and changing names.

Kokoro couldn’t swap Mary’s sheets, but she could still do that with Ouri’s. She can’t believe that Ouri could get a 69 in ethics. She considers the possibility of Yumika backstabbing her. Kokoro is convinced that someone betrayed her.

Kokoro would be more confident betting on all test subjects’ scores of Ouri than betting on a single score. Things have more chances of going wrong with only one subject.

Kokoro thinks that Mary looked out for her. Mary denies that. She leaves the classroom with Tsuzura. Mary confesses to Tsuzura that she thinks that she’ll never make friends in this school now. Tsuzura believes that Mary is honest with her own feelings, and she’ll do something if she thinks it’s right. She thinks that Mary’s honesty will attract many people.

Sachiko walks up to Mary. She tells her that the Full-Bloom society is about to act. They plan to go on a war with the student council, which Sachiko is part of. Sachiko asks Mary to help her to fight against the Full-Bloom society.
