—Mary Saotome to Hana class students |
The Scorning Girl is the 18th chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Only one subject remains in the Test Battle Game tournament’s final: Ethics. The winner will become the class representative and will have to pay 2,000,000 yen to the loser. Mary is winning against Kokoro with 598 to 568. Yumika announces the ethics scores. Mary’s score in ethics is a perfect 100 points. Kokoro now has cumulated 668 points. Yumika is shocked by Ouri’s score. Ouri scored 69.
Kokoro, who was about to celebrate, realizes that she’s won with 668 to 667 points. Kokoro becomes class representative and owes Mary two million yen. Mary tells her classmates that she won thanks to them. Mary knew they were swapping sheets and changing names. Kokoro can’t believe that Ouri could get a 69 in ethics. She considers the possibility of Yumika backstabbing her. Mary explains that Yumika actually covered for her. In the first round, Mary saw that Ouri’s grade in ethics was 69. If Ouri had a different score in ethics in this final round, Mary would have noticed the con anyways.
Kokoro asks why Mary didn’t pick that subject instead of going for a combined total score. Mary believes that Kokoro wouldn’t have accepted her side bet if they just went with ethics. Kokoro says that Mary’s win is a total coincidence and that things would have turned out differently if Mary got anybody other than Ouri. Mary confirms that. Kokoro doesn’t believe that Mary really agrees. She concludes that Mary rearranged the order of the subjects.
Most of the Hana class students mock Kokoro for becoming the class representative. Mary laughs, as she believes she’s seeing a bunch of idiots treating another idiot like an idiot. She explains that since they were all collaborating, they all lost to Mary, not just Kokoro. Mary adds that they all are stupid and challenges anyone to gamble right now at any price.
Mary leaves the classroom with Tsuzura. Sachiko walks up to Mary. She tells her that the Full-Bloom society is about to act. They plan to go on a war with the student council, which Sachiko is part of. Sachiko asks Mary to help her to fight against the Full-Bloom society.
