Kabura Tsuibami to Yumeko Jabami

The Start of the Girl is the 106th chapter of Kakegurui, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura.

Summary[]

Souko is emotionally broken. Kabura explained to Kirari that while Yumeko will keep the Jabami family name, she’ll be part of the Tsuibami family now. She also said that she’d only give Yumeko back if Souko paid 8 billion yen. She demanded that Kirari order the clan to not loan any money to Souko. As Souko isn’t winning games at school as much as she used to, Kabura believed it was all over for her. Kabura went that far because they can raise Yumeko as she is, missing a lot of things and having too much of other things. Her nature is completely different from others. Souko, on the other hand, has no flaw according to Kabura, so she finds it boring. Since Souko was a mother figure for Yumeko, Kabura wanted them to never meet again, so Yumeko would grow to resent the entire clan.

A lot of time passes, as indicated by the shishi-odoshi[1], and during that time, Souko continues to gamble. She eats with Tsugiko. She also thinks about Yumeko and remains hopeless.

Yumeko grows older. One day, she speaks formally with Kabura. Kabura asks Yumeko to refer to her as “big sis”, but Yumeko remains silent. Kabura then stands up and asks Yumeko to follow her; they’re going to meet Yumeko’s real big sister.

Part 2[]

You were gambling that entire time for my sake, weren’t you? This thing you never really enjoyed at all and you kept on doing it for me. Frantically. Putting everything you had into it. And no matter how that turned out, I am who I am today thanks to that will of yours. So thank you, big sis.

Yumeko Jabami to Souko Jabami.

The Start of the Girl (Part 2) is the second part of the 106th chapter of Kakegurui, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura.

Plot[]

Past[]

Yumeko is enthusiastic to meet Souko for the first time in a while. Kabura brings her to the hospital. It surprised Yumeko to see Souko despondent. Kabura announces to Yumeko that, for her, Souko has devoted herself to gambling and gaining money. Souko’s mood depended on her gambling results. She’s now completely broken.

Kabura puts the blame on Yumeko by saying Souko is in this state because Yumeko threw herself into the Jabami gamble for pleasure. She also tells Yumeko that she should be ‘Yumeko Jabami’ all the way. Kabura explains that it’s her goal and it would serve as a tribute to Souko. Yumeko is unsure if she really wants that.

Present[]

Yumeko meets Souko at the hospital again. Souko does origami with money bills. Yumeko hands her more bills. She recounts her meeting with Tsugiko, their auntie. Yumeko then reveals that she understands how, when she was young, Souko kept gambling for her sake despite not liking it. Yumeko hugs and thanks Souko. She speaks about how Hyakkaou and its students are and declares she’s now happy.
