Summary[]
The Jabami aunt explains that in rare cases, there is a deviant child in the bloodline. It’s always a smart, good, natured, and pretty girl, who’s willing to expose herself to danger. Yumeko and Souko’s mother was like that. She was obsessed with gambling. Yumeko and Souko’s mother became a regular at gambling dens run by shady people. She was very talented at gambling and dominated the tables no matter the conditions. Her victories were so abnormal that people began to suspect that she cheated. In these shady dens, being suspected of cheating is enough to be painted as guilty.
Rumor has it that one day, Souko and Yumeko’s mother and her husband suddenly disappeared. Their auntie believes that in reality, somebody rubbed them out. The Jabami clan still has no idea who the culprit is. Yumeko and Souko’s aunt gives them mementos from their mother. They are rings that were their parents’ engagement rings. Their mother gave these mementos to their aunt weeks before she vanished and instructed her to give one to each of them. She did that because she had a premonition.
Their aunt doesn’t want her nieces to follow in their mother’s footsteps, so she asks them to not get lost in the morass of gambling. When alone with Yumeko, Souko is worried and asks her little sister if that story is a lie. Souko is convinced that their mother wasn’t a gambling addict.
Souko goes to school. Kabura notices a ring on Souko’s finger and asks her if it’s the same kind her mother had. Souko is shocked about Kabura knowing her mother. Kabura explains that she was at family events a few times. She heard rumors that she was a gambling addict. Souko asks Kabura if she also heard rumors about who might’ve killed her parents, as she wants to know the truth.
Kabura suggests they go to the main family manor tomorrow. A lot of people will be there, as they’ll decide on the new family head. Kabura points out that they could find someone who knows about Souko’s mother there. Souko doubts they’d let teenagers in. Kabura tells Souko not to worry about that, as she’s the head of the Tsuibamis.
