—Shougou Soga to himself. |
The Uniting Girls is the 73rd chapter of Kakegurui Twin, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Kei Saiki.
Summary[]
Mary claims she will show them how scary gambling can be, but Mikoto and Shougou are still confident they’ll win. During the game, Mary goes all in. Because of his weak hand, Shougou is about to fold. Mikoto interrupts him to accuse Mary of cheating. She claims that Mary swapped dice while no one was looking. Mary proposes a bet: if she was cheating, she'll pay Mikoto 10 million yen, but if not, Mikoto has to pay her the same amount. Mikoto is about to accept the bet, but Shougou tells her he doesn’t think Mary cheated. He continues the game by calling Mary’s all-in bet.
During the showdown, Mary reveals four dice instead of three, one of which was a blank one. She had pretended to cheat to trick the middle schoolers. The dealer doesn’t consider this as cheating as the die is clearly a fake one. Mary won the hand. Shougou accepts it and advises Mikoto to focus on Mary. Mary says that the real lesson now begins. Then, Kurumi, Tsuzura, and Yukimi join the game, making Shougou uneasy. In the middle of the game, Kurumi touches her cup. Mikoto calls her out for it because Kurumi had already finished her roll. Kurumi asks Mikoto if she’s accusing her of cheating and suggests they bet on it. Mikoto refuses.
When the betting phase starts, Shougou asks Mikoto if she was watching Mary and if she performed any cheat. Mikoto is 100% certain that Mary didn’t cheat. Shougou is worried because he thought Kurumi touching her cup was to distract Mikoto from looking at Mary. Shougou has a three-of-a-kind of 5’s. He raises to 500,000. Tsuzura instantaneously goes all in. Shougou and Mikoto are terrified. Shougou understands his and Mikoto’s blunder. They focused on Mary when, in reality, all of the high schoolers were trying to cheat.
Plot[]
Mikoto and Shougou are puzzled by Mary saying she’ll show them how scary gambling is. The middle schoolers thought they went through that too often in the past and came to this school to prove that they don’t have to any longer. They’re still confident they’ll win. When rolls are complete, Mary begins the betting phase with 100,000. Shougou calls despite not having a good hand. Mary immediately goes all in, shocking the whole table.
Shougou judges this move to be bad because he can simply avoid the risk by folding, while Mary is risking all of her chips. Shougou is about to fold, but Mikoto interrupts him. She calls out Mary for cheating. Mikoto explains that between her first and second dice rolls, Mary switched a die on the table with one of her own. Mary denies it, but Mikoto asserts that Mary cheated. Mikoto asks Mary to pay, as when a cheater is called out, it’s considered the cheater’s loss regardless.
The dealer approves of the rule. Mikoto wants to reveal Mary’s cheat. She tries to check Mary for dice. Mary grabs her wrist and responds that the accusations are false. Mary then asks the dealer if breaking the rules involves penalties. The dealer explains that it involves forfeiting every bet made up to that point. Mikoto is furious, as she’s certain that Mary just cheated.
Mary suggests a bet, if she was cheating, she’ll pay Mikoto 10 million yen, however, if she wasn’t cheating, Mikoto will have to pay her the same amount. Mikoto thinks they have no reason to avoid the new bet. Shougou admits that he doesn’t think Mary was cheating. Mikoto reminds him that she saw Mary switching out the die. Shougou gets back to the game and calls on Mary’s all-in bet. The contestants have a showdown. Mary reveals four dice instead of three, one of which was blank. Mary had pretended to cheat. The dealer doesn’t count this as cheating since it’s clearly not a real die. Shougou understands that Mary attempted to trap them with the 10 million yen bet. Mary had won the hand, but Shougou tells Mikoto that it’s fine and she should focus on Mary now to see whether or not she’s really cheating.
Mary tells the middle schoolers that the real lesson begins now, surprising them. Kurumi walks in. She takes a seat at the table. Shougou understands that her presence is bad news. Tsuzura and Yukimi join the game too. Shougou dislikes the timing of their arrival. Mary had just won back all she lost. Shougou doesn’t want to quit now because it’d mean he didn’t beat Mary.
Shougou tries to grasp his opponents’ strategy. Kurumi touches her cup. Mikoto calls her out for it because Kurumi had already finished her roll. Kurumi asks Mikoto if she’s accusing her of cheating. She suggests they bet on it. Mikoto doesn’t take the bet and asks Kurumi to stop acting weird.
Kanade raises to 100,000 yen. Yukimi increases to 300,000. Shougou asks Mikoto if she was watching Mary and if she performed any cheat.
