She wasn't hiding a card under her hand at all. I can't explain why yet... but she deliberately lost ten million yen just now.

Yumeko Jabami to Ryota Suzui and Karen Mozu

The Victorious Girl is the 109th chapter of Kakegurui, written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura.

Summary[]

The student body embarks on a cruise called the Noble Crown. Mary is incandescent, as she knows Kirari didn't pick her to represent the student council. One of the explanations she came up with is that Kirari genuinely thinks Mary is worse than all the other selected representatives.

Meanwhile, a casino game run by Fido-Mittens Mutual Aid Society makes it lose 3 million yen. Because of a single player. Yumeko goes to gamble against her: Yuu Kurokiri. She's a member of the Guardians Society that will represent it in the seven-against-seven. They play a variant of Bōzu Mekuri where drawing a monk makes one lose immediately. They agree to stakes. Yuu draws a card randomly and puts it face-down on the side. It indicates the value of their bet. Yuu gets a monk in her first draw and acts shocked.

Yumeko thus already won. As Yuu is about to flip the card around, Yumeko halts her and asks Ryota to flip the card instead. He flips it around. It's a joker. Yuu pays the ten million yen, congratulates Yumeko, and goes away. Yumeko explains to Karen and Ryota that she actually wasn't hiding a card under her hand. She also knows that Yuu purposefully lost ten million yen.

Plot[]

The student body embarks on a cruise called the Noble Crown. It can hold three thousand passengers and is 300 meters in length. Mary thinks about new student council having a gambling match against the Guardians Society. Some of the best gamblers in the academy are representing it. Mary is incandescent, as she knows Kirari should’ve picked the gamblers she judges to be the best. She forms theories as to why she wasn’t chosen; one of these theories being that Kirari genuinely thinks Mary is worse than all seven of the selected representatives.

As Yumeko and Ryota are enjoying their time, they stumble upon Karen. She reveals that the Fido-Mittens Mutual Aid Society runs one of the casino games. A member of the group rushes to Karen and explains that a guest has been on a long winning streak, making the society lose 3 million yen. Yumeko goes to gamble against the guest: Yuu Kurokiri, a member of the Guardians Society. They play a variant of Bōzu Mekuri where drawing a monk makes one lose immediately. They agree to stakes. Yuu draws a card randomly and puts it face-down on the side. It indicates the value of their bet. It’s the card’s value times 100,000 yen. A joker is worth, in total, 10 million yen.

Ryota believes that the game is absurd. The deck contains 21 cards with princesses, 12 with monks, and 67 with other artwork. 12 monks out of 100 cards. He thinks that whoever goes first is at a disadvantage. Yumeko draws a princess. Ryota also finds the game boring as they just take turns drawing cards. He thinks it's a game of sheer luck. Yuu gets a monk and acts shocked.

Yumeko thus already won. As Yuu is about to flip the card around, Yumeko halts her. She suspects that card swapping might happen, so she asks Ryota to flip the card instead. He flips it around. It's a joker. Yuu owes Yumeko ten million yen. Yuu pays out, congratulates Yumeko, and goes away. Karen calls her a loser. Yumeko explains that she actually wasn't hiding a card under her hand. She also knows that Yuu purposefully lost ten million yen.
