—Yumeko Jabami to Itsuki | ||
The Whispering Girl is the twenty-fifth chapter of Kakegurui written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura.
Summary[]
As the game goes on, the bets continue to get wilder and wilder after Itsuki Sumeragi joined the game as Yumeko's patron.
Plot[]
Kaede Manyuda recounts the time his father told him to take the high road from now on. He asked him what would happen if he couldn't, and his father responded that he would be useless to him.
Itsuki Sumeragi enters the stage per the request of Yumeko Jabami. Yumeko asks her how much money she can give her. Before she can respond to Yumeko, Kaede tells her that if she goes away, he'll let this slide. When Itsuki doesn't respond, Kaede says that he expected nothing less and that her ambition is why he recommended her for the Student Council. He also tells her that he never felt an affinity for her because she lacked the talent to make her ambition bear fruit and that she's out of her own league, therefore she has no right to take the high road. Despite that, Kaede tells her that he could arrange it if she just wanted back on the Student Council. Yumeko interjects and tells Itsuki that she is the only one who can decide her worth and that she needs to make her choice.
Itsuki then recounts the time that she approached Kaede to ask for a seat on the Student Council. Kaede tells her not to do it simply because she's after the power the Student Council can give, and that if she did want a seat, he asked her if she was ready to handle the great responsibilities of being a council member. Itsuki tells him that she wants to be Student Council president. Kaede tells her that they're the same, and he will recommend her for the position. Presently, as she reflects on it, Itsuki realized that he was looking down on her the whole time.
Itsuki tells The Vice-President that she would like to add 100 chips. She tells Kaede that there is no way the president would allow her back on the council and that nothing pisses her off more than him messing with her, and because they're the same, she must defeat him. The game then proceeds with Kaede's 131 chips against Yumeko's 100.
Round three begins. Kaede discards two cards and Yumeko discards a pair of queens. The betting phase then begins with Yumeko betting 20 chips. Kaede raises her 20 chips, Yumeko raises him 20, he raises her 10, and she raises him 29, meaning she is out of chips now. Kaede then raises her 30 chips. Itsuki asks the Vice-President to add 10 more chips to raise by. Kaede raises her 10 chips back, she raises him 10, he raises her 10, and she raises him 10. Mary Saotome notes that Kaede has massive amounts of money, so he has a clear advantage. Itsuki continues raising him by 10 until he raises her by 100. Because of the huge pot, the Vice-President questions Kaede if his money is real, and he affirms this. She then asks Yumeko if this is the end of the betting phase. Itsuki tells her that she can't bet anymore, but Yumeko tells her that there is one option left: They bet their lives.
